The Sarasota County Libraries and Historical Resources system has announced its choice for its annual One Book, One Community program. And the winner is authored by our Committee Chair and local writer-historian Frank A. Cassell: Suncoast Empire: Bertha Honore Palmer, Her Family, and the Rise of Sarasota.

Monty Birdsey of Englewood wrote numerous short stories of life in this small Sarasota County community in the 1960s. Sadly, he passed before he could put his stories in a book. Don Bayley from the Centennial Steering Committee compiled and edited all the stories and published the book.
